Intersections: The Art of Duo is the result of the collaboration between Musiconnect (Malta) and The University of Iowa (U.S.A.) as part of an artiste exchange program between the two organisations.

In January 2007, Maltese percussion player Renzo Spiteri joined forces with marimba and vibraphone artiste Dr. Dan Moore to present a premier performance that was described in a review as “a collaboration which delivered music that was experimental yet melodic, intriguing yet pleasing and articulate” (The Sunday Times, February 4, 2007).

As an exchange visit, “Intersections” will be presented in a series of concerts in October/November 2007 during a three-week tour of the mid-western United States. This tour will include concerts in selected venues in Iowa and Chicago and at The Players Theatre in New York City, as well as a performance during the Percussive Arts Society International Convention 2007 (PASIC) to be held in Colombus, Ohio. PASIC is the largest percussion event of its kind, in which the finest artistes from all over the world are invited to present and perform.

Dan Moore

Known for his expertise in combining electronic and acoustic elements into his performances, Dr. Moore is an internationally known performer, composer, and educator who has developed a distinctive performance style, playing bass lines and harmonies while improvising and playing melodies simultaneously. He has performed as a soloist throughout the United States and has also appeared in Japan, China, and Argentina.

Renzo Spiteri

Renzo Spiteri is a versatile solo artiste and session musician who, throughout the years, has been committed to using the universal language of music to bring different cultures together. This has resulted in performances with various artistes from Europe, Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia, that have been described in a review as “alluring and intriguing ... [giving] a very good idea of Renzo's mastering of the percussion and his ways and means to adapt to different styles" (EM, The Sunday Times).
