“… a truly mesmeric performance … the skills of all three blended into something quite unique…”

- J. Lejman, Showtime, Malta

Celebrating 2008 as the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (EYID), Musiconnect (Malta) presented Sketches from Home, three exceptional artistes who blend their musical styles to present a highly charged and exciting performance of fusion of cultures and music.

Chinese flute player GUO YUE, Malta’s foremost percussionist RENZO SPITERI, and British piano and accordion player BEN MURRAY join forces in a captivating performance of original music that spans from highly energetic to evocative and sensitive moments.

Premiered in March 2008 at the Manoel Theatre, Malta’s most prestigious venue, the concert reflects a truly inter-cultural and trans-national collaboration exposing a geographical, musical and cultural mélange.

Sketches from Home performed in September 2008 in Viareggio (Italy) during an international event of music and culture entitled "Festival of cultures: intercultural cities award" which was hosted by the Italian Ministry of Culture in the frame of EYID 2008 and the action of the Council of Europe "Intercultural cities: governance and policies for diverse communities".

"It was a great evening. The sounds of Renzo Spiteri's percussion, of Guo Yue Chinese bamboo flutes (except for one in pure white jade) and Ben Murray's piano, keyboards and accordion mingled to perfection and produced an evening of beautiful music which lifted our spirits and captivated our imagination."

J.Guillaumier, The Times: March 2008

"… The three performers, each with his own engaging and interesting personality, manages to offer a blend of individualism and cross-cultural cohesion …"

A. G. Storace, The Times: March 2008

"...top class performance ... this was an evening of music that echoed each of the performers' talents and passion to perfection and the two hours of the performance flew by far too fast. Each musician said it was a privilege to be performing with the other, but in truth, the privilege was the audience's, to have witnessed and enjoyed such a great performance."

M. Bugeja , The Sunday Times: March 2008

GUO YUE has performed in music festivals, theatres and arts venues worldwide, collaborating with many musicians, singers and composers, and touching audiences both large and small with the eloquent beauty and descriptive power of his music and words. His bamboo flutes can be heard on the soundtracks of Bertolluci's Oscar-winning film The Last Emperor and the Emmy award-winning Channel Four documentary series Beyond the Clouds.

I have heard Guo Yue play his music and guarantee he delivers in a magical way. PETER GABRIEL
